DeluxeFX is built on our own colour engine, but parts of it stand on work that other people released openly. This page credits that work and sets out the licences it carries.

Film stock profiles in Look Lab

Look Lab ships a set of film stock profiles covering Kodak Portra, Ektar, Kodachrome, Fujifilm Velvia, Provia, Superia, Ilford HP5 and others. These are derived works, measured from the open film emulation collection of HaldCLUTs maintained in the free software community and distributed with tools such as G'MIC and RawTherapee.

That collection is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence (CC BY-SA). We thank its authors and maintainers, whose work made this feature possible. Because our profiles are derived from that collection, they carry the same CC BY-SA licence.

What we did

We did not repackage those files. Each stock was analysed with our own factorisation engine, which decomposes a colour transform into interpretable parts: tone curves, hue behaviour, and the residual our model cannot describe. What DeluxeFX ships is that decomposition. It is a compact recipe of roughly four kilobytes per stock, rather than the several megabytes of the original cube, and it is what lets a film stock in Look Lab arrive already taken apart, with its recipe on screen and every control live.

What is not derived

The palettes and print curves in Look Lab named Portrait Negative, Chrome, Vivid Slide, Warm Crossover, Cine Print, Film Print and the rest are our own work. They were authored from published and measured characteristics of film photography. Those are facts about how film behaves, which are not subject to copyright, and the curves contain no data from any third-party file. They are not licensed CC BY-SA and remain part of DeluxeFX.

Trademarks

Kodak, Portra, Ektar, Kodachrome, Ektachrome, Fujifilm, Velvia, Provia, Astia, Superia and Ilford are trademarks of their respective owners. DeluxeFX is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them. Stock names are used only to identify the film being characterised, which is nominative and descriptive use.
